Insuring Your Trip

Background

After experiencing a mass cancellation of our mission trips due to COVID-19, FOCUS Missions set out to find an insurance policy that will allow our participants to travel without hesitation. There are two things to insure against on a mission trip: 1) emergencies, medical treatment, protection of personal property, etc. and 2) the financial resources you and others gave for your trip.


Insuring your Safety

The Trip Armor Travel Protection Plan is purchased by FOCUS Missions for every one of our participants. You do not need to “opt-in” to purchasing this insurance, it is part or your trip cost and is required to travel with us. This plan ensures the safety and well being of our participants is covered, and that in the case of emergency we have professionals ready to assist you.

Benefits Include:

  • $100,000 Medical Benefit 
  • $1,000,000 Emergency Medical Transportation/Repatriation  
  • $25,000 Non-Medical Emergency Evacuation 
  • $50,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment 
  • $750 Travel Delay ($150 per day) 
  • $1,500 Missed Connection 
  • $1,500 baggage and Personal Effects •
  • $750 Baggage Delay 
  • $1,000 Trip Interruption


Insuring your Financial Resources

There are two options available for insurance plans to specifically protect your financial resources before the mission trip. These are Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) Insurance and Trip Cancellation Benefit Insurance. See below for the distinctions between these two options. After doing research on multiple travel insurance policies, FOCUS Missions recommends, but does not require, going through missiontripinsurance.com for their level of protection and customer service.

Option A: TripArmor Plus Cancel for Any Reason (Optional Purchase by Participant)

This benefit is exactly what it sounds like. You are eligible for a benefit of 75% of what you (or your donors) paid for your trip when you cancel for any reason, as well as up to 100% of what you or donors paid if you cancel for specific eligible circumstances.

Restrictions:

1. You MUST purchase this policy within 15 days of paying your initial trip deposit, or any funds towards your trip! The clock is ticking! 

 2.You must cancel your trip 48 hours before the scheduled departure.

FOCUS Missions recommends all our participants buy the CFAR insurance due to the ever-changing COVID situation. There is a chance some participants will choose not to participate on their trip for reasons not covered by a traditional Trip Cancellation benefit. Please remember, FOCUS Missions cannot give refunds or credits for a participant cancelling their trip under any circumstances. The CFAR is the only way to financially protect your trip.


Option B: TripArmor Basic Trip Cancellation (Optional Purchase by Participant)

FOCUS recommends all travelers purchase some type of trip cancellation insurance. This coverage is optional and must be purchased directly from the vendor by the participant (directions below).

Trip Cancellation insurance covers your trip up to the amount you paid, ONLY when specific, covered reasons for cancellation are met. Please be aware that the Covered Reasons under this type of policy are rare and serious circumstances. Please consult the insurance provider for details of the cancellation benefit.


Process For Purchasing CFAR Insurance or Cancellation Insurance

After doing research on multiple travel insurance policies, FOCUS Missions recommends, but does not require, going through missiontripinsurance.com for their level of protection and customer service.

To start the Insurance Purchasing Process:

  1. Pay your trip deposit on the application site, before moving to step 2. 
  2. After you are accepted to your trip and pay the trip deposit please send an email to [email protected] or call at 800-576-2674

In the email please include:

  1. A statement like: I am going on a FOCUS mission trip and am interested in purchasing cancellation insurance." 
  2. Your full name
  3. The FOCUS trip you are assigned to. 
  4. The date you paid your trip deposit (or the date you were assigned if you used a scholarship for the deposit).
