On May 13, 2017, people across the world celebrated the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima's first apparition. The high
point of this celebration was the Holy Father’s canonization of Francisco and Jacinta
at Fatima, Portugal. FOCUS is excited to announce that our apostolate will be consecrating the apostolate to Jesus through Mary, petitioning
especially the graces offered at Fatima and Guadalupe.
Why Jesus through Mary?
We make our ultimate consecration is to Jesus — though, as He willed, it is through His mother.
We make it first and foremost to Mary under no particular title, recognizing our need for all of her help.
Why Fatima? Why Guadalupe? Why Fatima and Guadalupe?
We seek the graces of Fatima because, as Pope Benedict XVI reminded us, "We would be mistaken to think that Fatima's prophetic mission is complete." We will do our little part to hasten the triumph of our Lady's Immaculate Heart, praying, accepting sufferings, doing penances and sacrificing for the salvation of souls!
We also seek the graces of Guadalupe because our Lady showed us just how much she
could bless peer-to-peer evangelization when, during the 1500s, we
witnessed about 10 million individuals in Mexico brought into the faith in about 10
We remember both Fatima and Guadalupe in this consecration because they offer a beautiful complementarity and fruitfulness to the mission of FOCUS in this sense: Fatima focuses on the missionary’s interior life, and Guadalupe focuses on the missionary’s exterior life. Both are directed toward the same end, which is the salvation of souls through a deepening relationship with Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of the Great Commission to know Jesus Christ and make disciples of all nations.
Personal Prayer for Spiritual Multiplication: O Lady of Guadalupe, intercede for me, that, despite my imperfections, my efforts will help multiply souls, igniting a joyful and burning love for Jesus Christ, His Church, and my neighbor. (Image painted by Susie Maurer, fifth-year FOCUS missionary.)
Where and when will this consecration take place?
On June 13, 2017, during the Mass at Ave Maria Catholic Church, Florida, more than 600 FOCUS missionaries and staff will make the Act of Consecration. It will be followed by a rosary procession with the World Apostolate of Fatima's statue of the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady of Fatima. (The procession will be live streamed on our Facebook page.)
How can we best honor our Lord and our Blessed Mother throughout this consecration?
Whenever we think of spiritual multiplication, we should call on Our Lady of Guadalupe. We must also intentionally live the message of Our Lady of Fatima - which can be done through the help of our Lord, who reminds us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Mt 11:30).
- Strive to live good Christian lives. We must obey God’s commandments and fulfill the duties of our state in life.
- Pray daily, especially the Rosary. In all of her apparitions, the request made most frequently by Our Lady was to pray the Rosary every day. We have an awesome rosary campaign which we’ll let you know about soon!
the Five First Saturdays. To hasten the triumph of our Lady’s
Immaculate Heart, our Lord asked that we observe five first Saturdays more
than once. On December 10, 1925, our Lady said to Sr. Lucia:
"Look, my daughter, at my Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console me and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess [their sins], receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen [now 20] mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me."
- Make sacrifices for the conversion of sinners and accept suffering patiently in reparation for our sins and those of others.
(The four points above are largely paraphrased from Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R., "Fatima for Today: The Urgent Marian Message of Hope" [Ignatius Press, 2010] pp.230-231)
